Sending files and folders
To Yahoo! Messenger contacts:
- Click the send new button in the Pando section of Yahoo! Messenger. A drawer slides out.
- Drag and drop contacts into the To: field, or click the To: button and select a contact from the window that opens. Contacts need to be online and have the Pando Yahoo! Messenger Plug-in installed. (Note: Yahoo! Messenger will know if your contact has the plug-in installed and, if not, whether your contact is using a version of Yahoo! Messenger that will work with the plug-in. Spooky, huh? You can invite your contact to install the plug-in. Click the down arrow next to Pando in the Yahoo! Messenger plug-in section. Choose Send Plug-in to a Contact.)
- Add files and folders by dragging and dropping them onto the Send window. If you aren't sending folders, you can easily navigate to individual files by clicking the Add button.
- Give the Package (that's the Pando name for this group of files and folders you're sending) a name. If you also want to add a description, click on the Package Name link.
- Click Send. Stay online until the progress bar shows that you're done sending. Your recipient will get a pop-up message announcing their new Package, and you'll get a pop-up saying that it was delivered. Your recipients have 14 days to download the Package.
To email contacts:
You can also send Pando Packages to people's email addresses using Yahoo! Messenger. Those people do not have to be online when you send the Package.
- Click the send new button in the Pando section of Yahoo! Messenger. A drawer slides out.
- Enter email addresses into the To: field.
- Add files and folders by dragging and dropping them onto the Send window. If you aren't sending folders, you can easily navigate to individual files by clicking the Add button.
- Give the Package (that's the Pando name for this group of files and folders you're sending) a name. If you also want to add a description, click on Package Name.
- Click Send. If this is the first Package you are sending with Pando, you'll be asked for your name and email address. The name and email address you enter will appear in the Pando Package email your recipients receive. Pando will remember what you enter, so you shouldn't have to enter them again. But you can change them at any time by clicking on the My email link in the main Send New window.
Another thing happens if this is the first Package you are sending to an email contact: a window with distorted text will appear. Please enter the distorted text into the box marked "Code:" and click ok. This one-time test is to prove that you are human and not a spam-spewing robot. It will not appear when you send future Pando Packages. - Stay online until the progress bar shows that you're done sending. Pando will now send an email with a small .pando ("dot pando") file attachment to your recipients and a copy of that email to your email address. The email will tell them that they need Pando to get the Package, and give them a link to do just that. Your recipients have 14 days to download the Package.
Receiving Packages
When someone sends you a Pando Package, you'll get a popup notice from Yahoo! Messenger.
- The Info button will tell you the name of the Package, the file size and a description if the sender entered one.
- Click Download. You'll get a progress bar. Or...
Click Later to put off downloading it. When you want it, click the received button. It will stay on that list and be available for downloading for 14 days. Or...
Click No Thanks. The Package will go away and not show up on any lists. - If you clicked Download, the files or folders are downloaded to a folder called My Pando Packages in your My Documents folder. When the Package finishes downloading, click the Open button. Single files should open in the appropriate application. If you downloaded a folder or multiple files, a window will open showing the contents.
A Pando Package can be downloaded for 14 days from the last time it was sent or forwarded. If you wait longer than that to try and download one, you may get a notice that the Package has expired. Pando will try and find a copy of the Package still available on the network but, if that fails, you will have to ask the sender to resend it.
Sharing a Package
You can share a Package as soon as its name appears in your Received or Sent file list.
- Select a Package to forward and click the share button.
- Choose a Yahoo! Messenger contact to send it to (that contact needs to be online and have the Pando Yahoo! Messenger Plug-in installed), or you can send it to an email address. See the "Sending Files and Folders" section above for more information about what will happen when you send to email contacts.
- Click Send. When sharing a Package, you cannot modify the files and folders, the Package name or the description.
Stopping a Package while it is sending
- Select the Package being transferring.
- Click the pause button on the bottom of the window. You need to catch the transfer before it is finished.
- You can resume sending your file at any time by selecting the Package and clicking the resume button at the bottom of the window. Or you can select the Package and click clear to remove the Package from your list. Your original files will not be deleted.
Stopping a Package that you are receiving
- Select the Package on the Received list that is downloading.
- Click pause. "Pause" changes to "Resume" so you can continue downloading later.
- To stop the transfer completely, select the Package and click clear. Pando will give you two options: a) clear this item from the list of received Packages, or b) clear the item from the list and delete from your hard drive the portion you've already downloaded.
Seeing Packages you have sent
To see Packages you have sent previously:
- Click the sent button. You'll see all the Packages sent since the last time you cleared the Sent History (through the main Pando application if you have it installed). The date and time shown is when the Package was sent from your computer, not when your recipient received it.
- Double-click anywhere on a Package in the list or select one and click on the info button.
- In the Package Info window, you can open any of the files you've sent by double-clicking them.
Finding a previously received Package
- Click on the received button.
- Scroll through the items listed.
- If it's not there, you may have cleared your Received list. Try going to Windows' Start menu and use Find to search for filenames ending with .pando. Once you've found it, you can open it and download the Package again if the Package is still available on the network.
Sample videos
As a little extra bonus, we provide a sampling of ten videos in the Pando Plug-in area. Click the big orange download button to get them. Click the big green open button to view them. It's really pretty easy and just as entertaining. Once you've downloaded them, you can forward them to your friends by clicking the forward button. They are updated often to add more stimulus to your day.
Other controls and settings
If you have the main Pando application installed, any of that program's controls and settings will affect the Pando Yahoo! Messenger Plug-in as well. See our main help section for information. Click here to download and install Pando.
One control you can access directly through Yahoo! Messenger is Pando's incoming connections port and proxy settings. Click on the advanced link. This is for advanced users and may help if you have had problems getting Pando to work with your firewall software.
- To set the port, replace the default setting in the "For incoming connections use port:" field. Choose either of the options below it to further refine your port settings.
- To set the proxy, choose a configuration from the drop down menu. If you select "use IE settings," Pando will use the IE settings to auto-fill the Host and Port fields. If you select "HTTPS," you will need to enter host and port settings manually. You can turn on authentication for either IE or HTTPS settings.
