Why doesn't anything happen when I try to download the plug-in?
What version of Yahoo! Messenger do I need?
The Pando Yahoo! Messenger Plug-in only works with Yahoo! Messenger with Voice version 8.0 or higher. That version of Yahoo! Messenger is only available for Windows. If you don't meet these requirements, the plug-in may not download or install properly.

Where did those movies in my Yahoo! Messenger tray come from?
We did it. As a little extra bonus, we provide a sampling of ten popular movies in the Pando Plug-in area. Click the big orange download button to get them. Click the big green open button to view them. It's really pretty easy and just as entertaining. Once you've downloaded them, you can forward them to your friends by clicking the forward button. They are updated often to add more stimulus to your day.
How do I send a Pando Package with Yahoo! Messenger?
To Yahoo! Messenger contacts:
- Click the send new button in the Pando section of Yahoo! Messenger. A drawer slides out.
- Drag and drop contacts into the To: field, or click the To: button and select a contact from the window that opens. Contacts need to be online and have the Pando Yahoo! Messenger Plug-in installed.
(Note: Yahoo! Messenger will know if your contact has the plug-in installed and, if not, whether your contact is using a version of Yahoo! Messenger that will work with the plug-in. Spooky, huh? You can invite your contact to install the plug-in. Click the down arrow next to Pando in the Yahoo! Messenger plug-in section. Choose Send Plug-in to a Contact.) - Add files and folders by dragging and dropping them onto the Send window. If you aren't sending folders, you can easily navigate to individual files by clicking the Add button.
- Give the Package (that's the Pando name for this group of files and folders you're sending) a name. If you want to add a description as well, click on the Package Name link.
- Click Send. Stay online until the progress bar shows that you're done sending. Your recipient will get a pop-up message announcing their new Package, and you'll get a pop-up saying that it was delivered. Your recipients have 14 days to download the Package.
To email contacts:
You can also send Pando Packages to people's email addresses using Yahoo! Messenger. Those people do not have to be online when you send the Package.
- Click the send new button in the Pando section of Yahoo! Messenger. A drawer slides out.
- Enter email addresses into the To: field.
- Add files and folders by dragging and dropping them onto the Send window. If you aren't sending folders, you can easily navigate to individual files by clicking the Add button.
- Give the Package (that's the Pando name for this group of files and folders you're sending) a name. If you also want to add a description, click on Package Name.
- Click Send. If this is the first Package you are sending with Pando, you'll be asked for your name and email address. The name and email address you enter will appear in the Pando Package email your recipients receive. Pando will remember what you enter, so you shouldn't have to enter them again. But you can change them at any time by clicking on the My email link in the main Send New window.
Another thing happens if this is the first Package you are sending to an email contact: a window with distorted text will appear. Please enter the distorted text into the box marked "Code:" and click ok. This one-time test is to prove that you are human and not a spam-spewing robot. It will not appear when you send future Pando Packages. - Stay online until the progress bar shows that you're done sending. Pando will now send an email with a small .pando ("dot pando") file attachment to your recipients and a copy of that email to your email address. The email will tell them that they need Pando to get the Package, and give them a link to do just that. Your recipients have 14 days to download the Package.
How do I send a folder?
It's basically the same as sending a file. See the question just above this one: "How do I send a file?" In step 3, don't use the Add button in Yahoo! Messenger. Open a window that contains the folder you want to send, and drag the folder into the Send New area of Yahoo! Messenger that says "Drop files & folders here."
Are folders in Pando Packages preserved when sending them?
Folders are preserved on the recipients' machines once the download is complete. The Pando Package simply shows a raw list of all the files in a Package. It's similar to how Winzip works.
Why is "browse" disabled when I forward a Package?
Packages need to be forwarded "as is." The browse button is grayed because you can't add anything. You can see the items that the Package contains in the "files & folders" space.
Where do the files I send go?
The files go to the Pando Network and then out to your recipients when they download the Package of files using the .pando file.
How do I know my files are secure?
The files that you send are encrypted while in transit and while on Pando's servers. When your recipient downloads the Package using the .pando file that they received, the files are decrypted transparently and the user sees the original data you sent. Pando uses the most secure version of the latest encryption technologies -- 256-bit encryption keys of the AES -- to ensure your files are secure while in transit. Where on my computer do Pando files go?
When you installed the plug-in, it created a default place for files to go called "My Pando Packages." On a PC that folder is in c: \Documents and Settings\My Documents.
If you have the Pando application installed, you can change where downloads go.
Changing the default location:
- Open the Pando application. If it's already running, you can click on the Pando icon in your system tray to bring it to the front.
- Click the options menu on the upper right portion of the window.
- Select Storage.
- Look for "Download Pando Packages to this folder by default:" Click the . . . button below it.
- Navigate to your folder of choice or click the New Folder button. When you click OK, the new folder selection will appear in the field next to the . . . button.
What do I do if a Package is expired?
Pando Packages expire after 14 days. If the Pando Package that you are downloading has expired, you will get a notice in a new window. Pando will try to find available copies of the file still on the network, but if that fails, you will need to contact the sender to send the files again.
How can I clear the Received list?
If you only have the Pando Yahoo! Messenger Plug-in installed, you will need to clear each file individually.
If you have the Pando application installed:
- Open the Pando application. If it's already running, you can click on the Pando icon in your system tray to bring it to the front.
- Click the options menu on the upper right portion of the window.
- Select Storage.
- Click the clear received items button. You can either:
- Clear only the Package list displayed in the Main Status window, or
- Clear the list AND delete the file(s)/folder(s) contained in those Packages from your computer.
Note: This cannot be undone.
How can I disable the plug-in altogether?
- Open Yahoo! Messenger if it's not open already.
- Click the Plug-ins button.
- Click Stop next to the Pando Plug-in. This will disable the plug-in.
- Note: if you have the full Pando application installed and you uninstall the plug-in, you will have to reinstall the Pando application. If you want to uninstall the plug-in, click the Trash Can next to the Pando Plug-in. A dialog box will tell you that it has been uninstalled. Click OK. Close the Plug-ins window.
- If you wish to continue using the Pando application, you will need to reinstall it at this time. Sorry for any inconvenience.
How do I upgrade to a new version of the plug-in?
- Uninstall the current plug-in by following the directions directly above this.
- Then, if you are running Pando, quit the application by clicking the Pando icon in the Taskbar and choosing Shut Down Pando.
- Download the installer for the Pando plug-in by going to http://pando.com/ympp. Click on the Get the Plug-in here link or the big graphic that says "Get the Plug-in." You'll be taken to the Yahoo! Gallery site.
- Click Download Application. If you aren't currently signed in to Yahoo! Messenger, the program will ask you to sign in. If you have multiple accounts with Yahoo! Messenger, the plug-in will only be installed for the account you log into.
- A dialog box tells you that the Pando Plug-in will be added to your My Plug-ins list in Yahoo! Messenger. Click Yes. It may take a moment, but the Pando section will appear in your Yahoo! Messenger plug-in area.
I have multiple Yahoo! Messenger accounts. Why does the plug-in only appear on one of them?
When you install the plug-in, it will only install on the current account. To add the plug-in to other accounts, sign in as them and install the plug-in again.
